Ed Sheeran has been hit with a new shock amid ongoing troubles.
In a major update, TMZ shared on Friday, September 25, that the Perfect singer’s weekend shows at Gillette Stadium, which is also known as Kraft Stadium, have been cancelled.
As shared by insiders of direct knowledge, the Friday and Saturday concerts have been axed due to bad weather situation in the Foxborough, Massachusetts.
“There is a massive nor'easter storm bearing down on New England,” noted the outlet.
Speaking to the outlet, a representative for stadium owner Robert Kraft told, "Stadium and tour management, along with public safety officials, have been closely monitoring the weather forecast over the past week. Due to the severe weather forecast throughout the weekend, the tour has made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium."
"The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority. Refunds are available now at the point of purchase. Ticketholders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded,” they added.
The storm is expected to bring strong winds and several inches of rain beginning Friday night, raising concerns for fans attending the open-air stadium and potentially posing a safety risk to the stage.
According to the Fox Weather’s forecast, the city is expected to get one to two inches of rain and wind gusts up to 40 MPH.
In a previous report, it was shared that the stage construction at the stadium was halted due to the forecasted storm update after being partially assembled on Thursday morning.
Ed Sheeran and Macklemore controversy
The latest update about Ed Sheeran’s concerts come amid the backlash he has been receiving due to the ongoing Macklemore controversy.
Sheeran and Macklemore’s drama began earlier this month, after the 43-year-old rapper spoke in support of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank during his MetLife Stadium performances in New Jersey earlier this month.
A petition calling for his removal from the tour was launched following the speeches, prompting the Shape of You singer to remove the rapper from the shows.
After Macklemore’s removal, five other opening acts also reportedly quit the tour.
The controversy has brought increased attention and backlash to the LOOP Tour as several celebrities and fans have been criticizing his move, while ticket prices for the concerts have also reportedly fallen significantly.
