Madonna and Charli XCX have released their highly anticipated collaboration, Danceteria Afterhours, marking a major pop crossover between the two music icons.
On Thursday, the Apple singer and the Frozen singer dropped their first collaborative track, Danceteria Afterhours.
The new track is a reworked version of Danceteria, which originally appeared on Madonna‘s No. 1 album Confessions II.
The new version was produced by Madonna, Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Stuart Price, and has been described as a celebration of the early influences that helped shape both artists’ careers.
Taking to Instagram account on Thursday, the Popular singer announced the release as she simply captioned the post, “DANCETERIA-AfterHours- Out Now!”
Charli XCX used her verse to revisit key moments from 2007 to 2015, including working with SOPHIE and A. G. Cook, moving to Los Angeles and joining the PC Music scene.
She also referenced the collective’s Pop City events and reflects on how songwriting and music shaped her career and live shows.
The collaboration mirrors Madonna’s verses, which revisit the clubs and people who shaped her early career in New York.
Soon after the song's release, Charli issued a heartfelt statement on her Instagram Story.
She penned the note, “Madonna is the one who paved the way for us all. she did it before we even dared to think it. to work with you on this song, to step into your world, your process, your detail: it was all just brilliant. thank you for everything < 33333”
