Shakira has made a brand new request in the custody case involving her two sons, Milan and Sasha.
The Colombian superstar and Gerard Piqué appeared at Barcelona's City of Justice on Tuesday, October 6, as part of proceedings concerning the visitation agreement for their sons, now 13 and 11.
Shakira and Piqué previously reached a custody agreement following their 2022 separation, but the singer is now seeking a modification focused specifically on the children's international travel.
A new revision for visitation terms for Milan and Sasha
According to a statement from Shakira's representatives, the Waka Waka hitmaker asked the former FC Barcelona star to travel to Miami to meet their sons during shorter school breaks instead of the children making long journeys for short amounts of time.
Milan and Sasha have to travel between Miami, where the boys live with their mother, and Barcelona, where Piqué is based.
For shorter school vacations, Shakira is asking Piqué to travel to Miami to see Milan and Sasha; rather than requiring the children to fly to Barcelona.
Why did Shakira make fresh request in the custody case?
The intention is to prevent the boys from making short transatlantic trips that involve significant time changes and disrupt their routines.
Shakira's team argues that changing the travel arrangement would allow the children to maintain their school, social, and family schedules for longer periods.
According to the statement, the proposed change is a way of protecting the boys' "emotional, physical and academic well-being".
Shakita is not reducing Gerard Piqué's time with the children
Shakira's representatives noted that the new request would not reduce the father's time with the children, rather she wants the travel burden between Miami and Barcelona to be shared than placed primarily on the children.
Shakira and Piqué's 11-year relationship
Shakira and Piqué went public with their relationship in March 2011, and welcomed Milan in 2013 and Sasha in 2015.
Amid reports of infidelity, the singer parted ways with the footballer in 2022, and she relocated to Miami with her sons following a custody agreement with Piqué.
Meanwhile, the footballer went Instagram official with Piqué Clara Chía Martí in January 2023.
Notably, Shakira has extended her Madrid residency with a final date on October 12 due to high demand.
