Zendaya is set to star in a new science-fiction film, marking another major project for the actress.

According to Variety, The Odyssey star has joined an upcoming untitled sci-fi film for A24, with Alex Garland set to write and direct.

Details about the plot remain under wraps, and production is scheduled to begin in 2027.

The film marks another collaboration between Zendaya and A24 after the success of Euphoria, which wrapped up its three-season run earlier this year, and The Drama, the dark comedy-drama co-starring Robert Pattinson that grossed nearly $135 million worldwide.

Garland is reuniting with A24 for another project after working with the studio on Ex Machina, released in 2024, along with Civil War, Men and Warfare.

The studio is also involved in Garland’s forthcoming large-scale Elden Ring adaptation, which stars Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman and Tom Burke.

Filming for The Elden Ring concluded on July 30, ahead of its planned release in March 2028.

Denis Villeneuve returns to Arrakis for one last time in Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled for release on December 16.

Garland’s return to sci-fi may excite fans of projects such as Annihilation and Devs, but it could also dampen expectations for a third film in the 28 Years Later franchise.

Garland wrote 28 Days Later and later reunited with Danny Boyle for 28 Years Later and its sequel, The Bone Temple

Boyle recently praised Garland’s script for a third film but said the project is on hold while the filmmaker works on Elden Ring.

Garland’s new sci-fi may push it even further back.
