Some regrets continue to haunt for a lifetime – and for Prince Harry, it’s his final phone call with Princess Diana.

During a recently published interview with GQ’s Zach Baron, the Duke of Sussex opened up about the last time he talked to his mum, which was just hours before her death.

The former Princess of Wales passed away at the age of 36 on August 31, 1997, in a car crash in Paris, France. At the time, her elder son Prince William was 15, while younger son Prince Harry was 12 years old.

In the interview, the Duke admitted to still think of his mother “almost everyday,” sharing, “It’s just a quick sort of like, ‘Wow, miss you. Wonder what the world would be like if you were still here. Wonder what my family would be like if you were still here.’”

He then recalled the last time he talked to his mother, revealing that the phone call took place only hours before the fatal car accident.

Harry revealed that at the time he, along with Prince William, was staying at Balmoral, and they were eager to get back to playing with their cousins.

Opening up about his greatest regret, the father of two shared that as he was eager to continue playing, he did not pay much attention to talking to Princess Diana.

“If I’d known it was the last call with her, how different that conversation would’ve been,” he admitted, adding, “And I’m the one that has to live with that. And the fact that as a 12-year-old kid, all I wanted to do was go off and run and play with my cousins.”

In the same conversation, Prince Harry shared that he still feels deeply connected to his late mother despite been nearly three decades since her death.

“Sometimes, there’s questions that I ask her, looking for some kind of response, and sometimes I do get a response. Maybe I’ve spent too much time in California, but having done the work that I’ve done, there is a connection still with my mom that I really do feel her energy at certain times and certain parts of my life,” he added.

While speaking to the host, Prince Harry once again expressed hopes of reconciliation with his father, King Charles III, and brother, Prince William.
