Here’s what expert says about generative AI systems in business

In recent years, so many generative AI systems have emerged, and millions of people are using them.

As per a BBC report, Jon Collins, former software programmer, system manager and technology officer who is currently working as an industry analyst for a research firm, said that there is no doubt we are in an AI ‘arms race.’

Collin believes the current arms race was spurred by the launch of ChatGPT at the end of 2022. Since then, people have been using AI every day to create text, artwork and videos.

Collin explained for business leaders, the stakes are high as the generative systems are very powerful and can digest more data in minutes as compared to a human could in several lifetimes. Now, company leaders are aware of what AI could allow them and their competition to achieve.

He noted, “Fear and greed are driving it. And that creates an avalanche of momentum.”

In the pharmaceuticals sector, firms are customising AI to help them discover new compounds to treat disease, but it is a costly process.

Collins suggested, “You need data scientists, and you need model engineers,” adding it does not stop there, “You need the infrastructure engineers that can build your AI platforms.”

Collin believed that larger firms will continue to pour cash into AI projects, even if it is not always clear what they are likely to achieve.
