Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa’s tragic causes of death have finally been released.
On Friday, March 7, Hello! reported that Dr. Heather Jarrell, who is a chief medical examiner for New Mexico, held a press conference where he opened up about the Oscar-winning actor and his wife’s shocking deaths.
Jarrell stated that it was “reasonable to conclude” that 64-year-old Betsy passed away on February 11 due to suffering hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which can be fatal and is spread by rodents’ body fluids and excrement.

Talking about Gene Hackman’s cause of death, the examiner revealed that the 95-year-old actor’s autopsy unveiled his history of cardiovascular disease, along with advanced Alzheimer’s.
Jarrell mentioned that "hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease" was Gene’s cause of death, "with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributory factor.”
He breathed his last on February 17, six days after the death of Betsy Arakawa.
It was also stated in the investigation that due to the Superman actor’s poor health and Alzheimer’s, he may have been confused which could be a reason why he did not report Betsy’s death.

Moreover, it is also unclear whether or not Gene Hackman knew about Betsy Arakawa’s death before his passing.
