
Samsung has officially announced a new update to SmartThings, its app that lets users control the company’s IoT devices.
The South Korean-based tech giant on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, revealed that with new home automation capabilities in an apparent bid to cross-sell more of its smart home devices and appliances to existing customers.
Despite the automation features, users will receive new integrations with the Samsung Health app, an intercom feature, and support for more devices through the Matter 1.4 smart home connectivity standard.
Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings Jaeyeon Jung stated, “SmartThings’ latest update represents our ongoing efforts to make the smart home more intuitive, connected, and personalised.”
“We’re excited to continue pushing the boundaries of smart home innovation by empowering users through enhanced personalisation and automation, including sleep wellness,” Jung added.
To note, users can now set routines to be repeated every week, every month, or every year, and SmartThings’ integration with the Health app and new 2025 Samsung TV models now enables you to set up automation.
Additionally, SmartThings can now connect to Samsung Health to send sleep reports on Galaxy devices that provide metrics, such as temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, and lighting intensity.
With the Matter 1.4 standard, SmartThings now supports devices like water heaters, heat pumps, solar power devices, and batteries, along with mounted on-off switches and mounted dimmable load control devices.
Samsung claimed by integrating AI-powered capabilities, expanding device compatibility, and supporting the latest Matter standard, SmartThings reinforces its ongoing commitment to innovation – making the connected home more intelligent, energy-efficient and seamless for users and their families.
