Iran rejects Trump ceasefire claims as 'false and baseless' amid Hormuz standoff

Iran has officially dismissed claims made by US President Donald Trump that the Islamic Republic requested a ceasefire to end the ongoing conflict.

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, called the President’s statement “false and baseless” during a broadcast on state television.

The diplomatic clash follows a post by Trump on Truth Social, where he stated that “Iran’s New Regime President has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!”

Trump claimed the new leadership was more intelligent than previous ones but warned that he would only consider the request once the Strait of Hormuz is “open, free, and clear.”

He added that until then, the US would continue “blasting Iran into oblivion or as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!”

Tehran’s rejection was swift and firm. Beyond Baghaei’s denial, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Al Jazeera that “there are no grounds for negotiations” under the current circumstances.

He emphasized that the Iranian people will not be influenced by “the language of threats and deadlines.”

As the war enters its second month, both nations remain locked in a cycle of military strikes and verbal hostility.
