LeBron James became the center of attention ahead of 2026 NBA free agency after an insider revealed an explosive Los Angeles Lakers update.
An NBA insider has predicted that the 41-year-old might not continue his future with the Lakers and could surprise everyone in the upcoming free agency, predicting a dream LeBron James and Stephen Curry team-up.
LeBron and the Lakers' silence on the matter has also triggered widespread rumors about his trade.
LeBron James has not made himself available for the Lakers
NBA insider Brian Windhorst claimed that the Lakers reached out LeBron and showed their interest in keeping the NBA all-time leading scorer but he did not meet them but he did not “made himself available.”
He told The Rich Eisen Show, “It's my understanding that LeBron has not made himself available to meet with the Lakers about his free agency. I'm choosing those words carefully, 'has not made himself available.'”
“The Lakers reached out to LeBron to say, 'Hey, we'd love to have you back.’ He has, based on his (Instagram), been playing golf every day.... The Lakers have not even been able to offer LeBron a contract because he has not had time or has not made himself available," the insider added.
Windhorst on ESPN revealed that the team also reached out to four-time NBA champion’s longtime agent, Rich Paul, but the talks are still halted.
He said on ESPN, “They reached out to LeBron's representative Rich Paul and said, 'We'd like to have LeBron back. But there have been no further talks. From what I understand, the Lakers have not made an offer. But LeBron, from what I understand as of today, has not made himself available to meet with the Lakers yet."
Windhorst also brushed off LeBron retirement rumors, saying that he is sure that the power forward will play next year and he is planning something for his 24th NBA season, that is why he has not met the Lakers yet.
Lakers losing LeBron James?
LeBron's silence on the matter has sparked rumors that he might join the Golden State Warriors as a free agent, as the basketball professional has been delaying his decision and reportedly ignoring talks with the Lakers.
Basketball News reported that the Miami Heat, which acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, is considering signing LeBron to form a Big 3, adding that the youngest player to reach 10k, 20k, and 30k points might choose the Warriors.
Lakers analyst Trevor Lane said on the Lakers Nation Podcast, “We’ve heard the Lakers are losing Marcus Smart. We’ve heard the Lakers are losing LeBron James. All we’ve heard from the Lakers is maybe, maybe Dean Wade. Jock Landale is going to get Lakers fans really excited, right?”
“Like Cam Johnson’s the biggest name that we’ve heard connected to the Lakers, but these are all peripheral pieces. And again, this may be hope; the only reason why we’re hearing all these peripheral pieces and not the big move is that the big move is being executed in silence,” he continued.
LeBron James' time with the Los Angeles Lakers
LeBron James officially joined the Los Angeles Lakers on July 9, 2018, on a four-year, $154 million free-agent contract.
To date, he has played eight seasons with the franchise, the longest tenure with any single franchise. During this time, he set the NBA all-time regular-season games played record and reached a historic 23 consecutive NBA seasons.
