The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy officially begins on Monday in Plymouth Superior Court. The 35-year-old former nurse faces charges for the 2023 deaths of her three young children in Duxbury. A panel of 18 jurors will hear opening statements before witness testimony starts.
First witness on the stand
Her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, is expected to take the stand as the first witness for the prosecution. He was the first person to find the children that night.
Legal analyst Jennifer Roman stated, “Why would a loving, devoted mother do this is the million-dollar question that both sides need to answer for that jury.”
Claims of postpartum psychosis
Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. Her lawyer admits she killed the children but argues she suffered severe postpartum psychosis. He claimed she experienced a “horrific overmedication of drugs that caused homicidal ideation.” Meanwhile, prosecutors contend that the acts were premeditated.
Keeping private files protected
Ahead of trial testimony, Judge William Sullivan approved a request to limit public media access. Outlets cannot broadcast the 911 call or autopsy photos.
The judge ruled that public dissemination “will create a substantial likelihood of harm” to Patrick Clancy.
Expected length of trial
The proceedings in Plymouth Superior Court are expected to last six to eight weeks. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington emphasized the central question to the court, “She obviously had no reason to kill those three beautiful children, so you have to ask yourself why.”
