A Mexican social media influencer, Cesar Gastelum, was fatally shot outside a fast-food restaurant in the western state of Sinaloa. The attack happened while he was livestreaming.
The shooting took place at around 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday, August 4, while Cesar and three other people were recording content outside a KFC restaurant in Culiacan, Sinaloa.
What happened in Cesar Gastelum's shooting?
Footage from the livestream showed two people on a motorcycle pulling up next to the group before the driver drew a handgun and fired once at Gastelum, striking him in the head. The attackers then fled.

Gastelum died at the scene, according to local media. His body was left near the exit of the restaurant's drive-thru as police and military personnel secured the area.
The content creator, who had nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok, was known for his comedy sketches, recurring characters, music covers, videos about his daily life and livestreams.
Authorities confirm Cesar Gastelum's death
A security official in Sinaloa state confirmed Gastelum's death and said a significant security operation was underway.
Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa, has been the epicentre of a violent internal conflict between the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman and long-time cartel leader Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada for the sole control.
Valeria Marquez's killing on livestream
The attack once again highlighted the killing of 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Marquez, who was shot multiple times during a TikTok livestream at her salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, in May 2025.
In July, Mexican authorities announced the arrest in Jalisco of Ramon Angel Alvarez Ayala, known as "El R-1," whom Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch identified as the leader of a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
Authorities have linked Alvarez Ayala to the killing of Marquez and accused him of ordering and financing the November 2025 murder of Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo.
