Verizon was reportedly hit with a major outage, impacting thousands of users across Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Boston on Saturday, August 8, 2026; however, it has been restored and finally running again.
According to Downdetector, a web outage tracking site, the major Verizon outage started around 3 p.m Eastern Time, and reported a significant surge in reports, reaching over 13,000.
Shortly after the outage, Verizon officially addressed the issue, highlighting that they were aware of the outage that impacted voice service for several wireless customers.
Eventually, the outage resolved, but customers who are still experiencing the outage are requested to restart their devices.
Verizon released a statement, which read, "We know how much you rely on us, and we're sorry for the inconvenience."
However, the actual cause of the outage remains under wraps.
Customers who lost calls during the outage window are recommended to watch their next bill for the promised credit instead of contacting support directly, since carriers typically apply these adjustments automatically once an incident is confirmed.
It is pertinent to mention the recent Verizon outage didn’t mark the first outage of this year. Similar disruptions occurred at other carriers earlier in 2026 prompted lawmakers to ask the FCC for more transparency around outage causes, though the agency has not mandated new disclosure rules specific to voice failures of this kind.
