Prepared foods sold at Trader Joe’s, Target, Walmart, Hannaford, Kroger, Stop & Shop and Whole Foods are already recalled because they contain jalapeños contaminated with Salmonella.

Taylor Fresh Foods of Salinas, California, announced the voluntary recall following its jalapeño supplier recalled fresh peppers associated with a multistate Salmonella outbreak.

The recalled products include about 20 refrigerated foods, mainly dips, salsas and prepared meals.

Recalled products

Affected items include pico de gallo, guacamole, salsa, spicy dips and other prepared foods. Trader Joe’s Fiesta Style Salad Shrimp, Kroger’s spicy roast beef sandwich and Walmart’s Freshness Guaranteed pico de gallo are among the products included in the recall.

The products were distributed to centers in 26 states and have Best If Used By dates via August 16, 2026.

Taylor Fresh Foods stated it has not got reports of sickness linked to its recalled products. However, the jalapeños are connected to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak that has sickened hundreds of people across more than two dozen states.

Federal investigators traced the contaminated peppers to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico. Taylor Fresh Foods has stopped buying jalapeños from the supplier and is now using other sources.

Salmonella bacteria

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common foodborne illnesses.

Common symptoms, which typically appear six hours to six days after eating contaminated food, include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting.

Consumers who bought recalled products should not eat them and should throw them away. Refunds are available from the stores where the products were purchased.
