The Sabarmati Report is itself not propaganda; the impact of the film was!
Vikrant Massey – who played the leading role in the 2024 action thriller film has now opened up about the controversy behind the movie.
In a fresh interview with Shekhar Soman, the popular Indian actor talked about how his real life was disturbed after revealing the hidden secrets in The Sabarmati Report.
For those unfamiliar, in 2024, the creative directors of Bollywood, Dheeraj Sarna and Ranjan Chandel, launched a movie in which they uncovered a report about the Godhra train burning incident, which occurred in 2002 in Gujarat, India.
Now, two years later, the Musafir Cafe actor revealed the details, which sent the internet into shock waves.
Vikrant said, "I did a film called The Sabarmati Report, and I am extremely proud of that film. When I did that film, people used the word you used: propaganda."
"People called that film propaganda. We made it on the Godhra train burning. We made it on the burning of the Sabarmati Express. I had to listen to a lot of abuses. My WhatsApp number was leaked. My car number was leaked. People threatened me openly," the 12th Fail actor told Shekhar Soman in his podcast Shekhar Tonite.
After the release of the controversial film, Vikrant said he did not enjoy his private moments with his son, who was just born in 2024.
"My son had just been born then. He was just six months old. I was heavily impacted, and I openly said this in the media," he added.
He also lashed out at the people behind harassing him, calling them "cowards" for unleashing their plotted strategy behind the incident, which caused the deaths of nearly 59 people.
Why The Sabarmati Report dubbed as 'Propaganda'?
It is pertinent to note that Vikrant Massey starrer movie, The Sabarmati Report, was based on the real-life horrific incident which took place on February 27th, 2002.
At the time, 59 people – who were primarily Hindu pilgrims and volunteers- were returning to their home from the northern town of Ayodhya to various locations in Gujarat, India, when the train was attacked and set on fire at the Godhra railway station.
After the film's release, it faced backlash that even impacted Vikrant Massey's life, for portraying the incident as a calculated move by influential people.
