In a significant update, Apple has announced the latest Mac mini powered by its all-new M6 and M5 Pro chips, bringing significant performance enhancements and cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI)-powered capabilities to its compact desktop.
Notably, the major launch comes days ahead of flagship iPhone 18 series release.
M6 brings significant AI boost
The Cupertino-based tech giant brought the Mac mini with M6 integrated with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators built into each GPU core.
As per the company, the recently introduced model delivers nearly 4x faster AI performance, 2x faster graphics and storage, and 40% faster CPU performance compared with the previous generation.
Additionally, the M6 variant consists of a 16-core Neural Engine and up to 170GB/s of memory bandwidth, having an advanced capability to easily manage local AI models, creative apps, and efficiently manage everyday tasks with higher speed.
M5 Pro streamlines workflow
For professionals, the Mac mini with M5 Pro provides nearly an 18-core CPU and 20-core GPU, along with Neural Accelerators and up to 64GB of unified memory.
Apple stated the M5 Pro offers improved performance for tasks such as video production, 3D design, game development, scientific simulations and AI workloads.
In terms of connectivity, it also supports up to 307GB/s of memory bandwidth and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.
Faster connectivity and macOS 27
Apple’s both new models entail Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet, with a 10Gb Ethernet option. The M5 Pro additionally includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports.
The new Mac mini runs macOS 27, bringing Apple Intelligence improvements and the company's new Siri AI experience.
Mac Mini pricing and availability
Apple’s new Mac mini with M6 is available for $899, while the M5 Pro model is priced at $1,699 in the US. Pre-orders opened August 25, with the computers scheduled to launch in stores and with customers from September 22.
