The country singer passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer, details of which were not revealed.

JK Rowling, the name behind the magical world of Harry Potter, penned a heartfelt tribute to the 9 to 5 hitmaker on X, appreciating Dolly on her charity linked to provided books to students.

"Dolly Parton's Imagination Library was the best contribution to child literacy ever made by a celebrity," JK noted.

She added, "Our paths crossed once, in the 90s, backstage at a talk show, and I was completely tongue-tied and starstruck. RIP Dolly. You were a complete, irreplaceable one-off."

JK Rowling faced criticism over Dolly Parton's tribute 

The tribute came in the backdrops of intense scrutiny the author faces for her anti-trans views.

Moreover, the post attracted online criticism, as one user on X wrote under her post, "she championed trans rights you f--king a--hole. keep her name out of your dirty mouth."

Others also shared screenshots of articles and Dolly's interview, where she expressed her continuous support for the Trans community.

"She was altogether a much better person than you ever could be," another user added.

A harsher reply read, "Shut the f--k up you bigoted dry biscotti bi--h. Dolly didn't have any hate in her heart for anyone but she did her best to avoid being photographed with hateful people. That's why there's none of you and her. You're full of toxic hate. Fix your heart."

JK Rowling fires back at criticism

One scathing response to JK Rowling's tribute seemingly enraged the author, who shared the comment with her followers. The reply read, "It should have been you."

Sharing a screenshot of the post, JK wrote, "Top tips for wishing death on people in public. Blocking the target is useless if you've signposted your real name and university in your bio."

In another post, JK also defended Dolly, as one X post read, "Pretty sure she was a Trumper. Nothing of value was lost," to which the author replied, "Oh, do fuck off. At a conservative estimate, Dolly Parton was 100,000x the person you are."

Notably, the Jolene hitmaker's nephew, Bryan Seaver, confirmed her passing in an Instagram video shared earlier in the day.
