Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman are all set to join forces once again.
On Tuesday, September 1, Deadline reported that the Clean and Sober costars have been locked in to reunite after nearly four decades for a thrilling new project, titled Rode to Ruin.
As per the update, Freeman is set to join Keaton in the original Western thriller, which the latter is directing and starring in.
The anticipated project is penned by R. Dean McCreary and will see Keaton playing the role of retired Marshal Henry Tillman, while Freeman has been confirmed to portray a wanted outlaw Joseph Mulberry.
Rode to Ruin, according to the outlet, focuses on “the U.S. Marshal searched forty years for his wife’s killer, and the cold trail finally heats up and leads him to an aging outlaw losing his memory – and to a buried truth neither man may survive.”
The project will mark the first onscreen reunion of Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman, who have previously worked together in 1988’s drama film Clean and Sober.
Speaking about the upcoming movie, the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star said, “When I first read it, I thought, this is really good – and there’s more here for Morgan and me to mine together.”
“Once we talked, it became clear we were on the same page. Just as The Shawshank Redemption isn’t simply a prison movie, Rode to Ruin isn’t simply a Western. It’s a story with a lot of layers that happens to unfold in the West,” he continued.
Meanwhile, the movie’s producer Lori McCreary noted, “Rode to Ruin is a deeply human story about forgiveness, revenge, redemption and the choices people make when time is running out.”
She added, “The prospect of Michael directing and sharing the screen with Morgan is everything we hoped this film could become.”
Rode to Ruin will be produced by Lori McCreary, Michael Keaton, Kelly Mendelsohn, and Gary Lucchesi.
