Doja Cat has addressed accusations that she is “demonic” while candidly opening up about her past struggles with drug addiction, revealing, “I have struggled with cocaine.”
In a series of TikTok clips on Monday, the Say So rapper finally stepped forward to speak out on the claims that she has “demonic” tendencies and revealed that she has “struggled with cocaine.”
Doja Cat, 30, admitted she felt “fear” about opening up on the topic, but “was taught” she “should do something that scares [her] every day if [she's] on any journey to healing.”
She continued, “So a lot of people on the Internet believe that I'm demonic - that I have demons - that I have evil in me.”
Doja Cat said that if there is “anything good” to come from the claims, it is an opportunity to educate people about demons and evil.
She described demons as potentially linked to addictions to substances or social media, compounded by untreated mental illness.
The Woman continued, “The best example, from my experience, is using the Internet as a means of validation to the negative thoughts in my head, which were then brought on by drinking alcohol.”
Doja Cat added, “I've never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but ... alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with - I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems.”
She urged fans to stay creative, care for themselves and remember they are “not indestructible,” before opening up about her past struggle with cocaine addiction.
Doja Cat revealed she struggled with cocaine addiction around eight years ago but is now “well past that,” thanking God.
The Street singer also highlighted the impact of untreated mental illness and social media, urging people to keep that in mind when facing online negativity.
She mentioned, “If people are commenting stuff that makes you hate yourself or ... validates the stuff that you already hate about yourself, just know that first of all, you probably need help - second of all, they probably need help.”
Doja Cat said she tries not to return toxic energy to online trolls, noting their negativity may come from personal struggles, urging users to consider whether their comments are projections and reminding them that “not everything is the truth.”
Doja Cat share her Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis
The comments come after Doja revealed that her Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis has made it difficult for her to trust romantic partners.
She first spoke about her diagnosis in March, saying she had been “struggling” and in therapy for years.
