Leonardo DiCaprio is speaking out on an important topic.
The Titanic star took to Instagram over the weekend to mark the 2026 World Amazon Day, sharing a thoughtful statement on the “growing pressure” on the Xipaya Territory from the illegal gold mining.
For those unfamiliar, the Xipaya Indigenous Land is a protected area of native forest located in the municipality of Altamira in the state of Pará, Brazil.
“The Xipaya Territory is under growing pressure from illegal gold mining. Since 2018, gold mining has cleared 223,000 hectares of Brazilian Amazon. These operations cut deep into the forest and release mercury into rivers, contaminating fish and drinking water and leaving lasting damage to human health,” stated the actor.
He continued, “Juma Xipaia has been resisting this her whole life. YANUNI (@yanunifilm) directed by @richardladkani follows her story, a story of love and resistance. This mission is not ours alone. It belongs to all of us – and to you, too.” – Juma Xipaia.”
The One Battle After Another star, who released a documentary film Yanuni last year based on the life of Indigenous Chief Juma Xipaia of Xipaya People, announced that the movie is up for streaming on YouTube, coinciding the World Amazon Day.

The actor’s latest statement comes months after he wrapped up filming for his upcoming movie What Happens at Night.
The forthcoming gothic psychological horror film, directed by Martin Scorsese, follows the story of “A married American couple visits a snowy European town to adopt. At their eerie hotel, they meet odd characters - a chanteuse, businessman and faith healer. Reality blurs as they pursue the baby and question their lives,” as per IMDb.
The film is expected to premiere in 2027.
