Amid all the backlash over her new sports ad, Sydney Sweeney has been hit with a new headache.
In the wake of her “hypersexualized” advertisement, the Euphoria actress has reportedly lost more than 200,000 followers on Instagram, shared the Daily Mail on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The Anyone But You actress landed in hot water after promoting bookmaker Novig in a controversial ad, where she uses sports equipment to cover herself.
In a series of photos and videos, Sweeney could be seen naked holding American footballs, a tennis racket and a ball, and lying on a basketball.
After sharing the ad on her official Instagram handle last Wednesday, September 9, the 29-year-old actress lost more than 200K followers up till now.
The ad has also received backlash from women in sports, including female Olympians.
Talking to CNN, Australian surfer Felicity Palmateer said that the Novig advertising campaign is "very damaging" for female athletes and young girls looking to get into sport.
Felicity noted that the "hypersexualised" ad left her in "utter disbelief", adding, "Incredibly disappointing, like, how far you can put women's sports backwards in the space of a 42-second commercial."
British sprinter Amy Hunt also called out the ad campaign in a post-race interview on Sunday.
"Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sport look like," Hunt told BBC Sport. "Muscles. Hard work. Sweat, blood, tears."
Australian swimmer Lani Pallister also shared her disappointment in the ad, as she posted a compilation video of her training and competing, with text that read, "Don't know what Sydney thinks sport looks like, but THIS is what sport looks like.”
