Olu Jacobs has passed away at the age of 84.
The legendary Nigerian actor's family announced the his death on Wednesday, September 16th, in a sombre statement.
Paying tribute to Olu Jacobs, whose real name is Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, his wife, Joke Silva, and their son called him, "Lion of Lufodo."
"It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo," they added.
Joke and her grieving son continued, "Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026. We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time."
Olu Jacobs dies after celebrating his 84th birthday
The actor also recently celebrated his 84th birthday on July 11th, 2026.
Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, Jacobs built a career that included international productions in the 1970s and 1980s and hundreds of Nigerian films.
Apart from acting, the late Nigerian actor also served as a producer and stage director and was a co-founder of the Lufodo Group with his wife, actress Joke Silva.

He worked on 20 films, including Ashanti, The Dogs of War, Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend, Pirates, Greatness, Smoke & Mirrors, League of Gentlemen, Bent Arrows, Sacred Lies, White Chapel, Adesuwa, Potomanto, The Antique, Bloody Ring, Oloibiri, Dry, One Fine Day, and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel.
Nollywood actress pays heart wrenching tribute
As the news of his death garnered attention, Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has mourned the death of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, describing him as "a true legend" who supported and encouraged young talents.
"A true legend, a kind and gracious man who was always willing to support, encourage and uplift young talents. Your remarkable legacy and contribution to our industry will never be forgotten," she wrote on X.
Akindele also extended her condolences to Jacobs’ wife, Joke Silva, his children, the entire Jacobs family and the Nigerian film industry.
So far, Olu Jacobs’ funeral has not been announced by his family.
