Tay Keith’s cause of death has finally been determined.
Three months since his passing, TMZ revealed the late hip hop producer’s grim cause of death on Thursday, September 17, reporting that he died of drug overdose.
According to the report, the American record producer, whose real name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, passed away from the “toxic effects of drugs including ketamine and an active ingredient in kratom.”
For those unfamiliar, ketamine is a dissociative drug, which means it causes people to feel separated or detached from their body or physical environment, as per Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
Citing the Nashville Medical Examiner’s Office, the outlet reported that Tay Keith had ketamine and mitragynine in his body at the time of his death.
As per Science Direct, Mitragynine is “the psychoactive compound found in M. speciosa Korth, which has addictive properties and can impair cognition.”
However, it is yet to be found how the late producer secured the drug.
It was also revealed that Tay Keith had “nicotine and ethanol” in his system, with medical examiner noting that he also had mild coronary artery disease.

Tay Keith, who had worked with several top artists, including Drake and Travis Scott, was found dead at the age of 29 at his home in Nashville on June 18, 2026.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the Rich Flex producer was discovered unresponsive at his apartment on Martin Street in Nashville on Thursday afternoon, June 18, in a police welfare check.
Drake’s tribute to Tay Keith
After Tay Keith’s death, Drake took to Instagram to pay him an emotional tribute.
In the post, the 39-year-old Canadian rapper and singer shared a black-and-white image featuring a photo of the late record producer surrounded by a wreath and a text stating, “In Loving Memory of Tay Keith. Rest in Peace.”
Captioning the post, Drake penned an emotional message that read, “Endless and eternal gratitude for your spirit and your contributions to this thing that we all love so much…you will be deeply missed.”
The late record producer was well-known for co-producing Travis Scott’s 2018 single Sicko Mode and Drake and 21 Savage’s 2022 song Rich Flex.
