Kim Kardashian opens up about a frightening health scare that landed her in the hospital in the newly released trailer for Season 8 of The Kardashians.
A new trailer for the Hulu series revealed that the Skims founder was hospitalized due to an esophageal condition.
“I have something called esophagitis,” Kardashian said in the video.
A producer then asked whether this was the same illness that killed her father, attorney Robert Kardashian, who was 59 when he died of esophageal cancer in 2003.
“It makes me want to cry,” added Kim’s mom, Kris.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, untreated esophagitis can lead to Barrett’s esophagus, which raises the risk of cancer.
Following Robert’s death, Kim and her family have raised awareness of esophageal cancer and helped open the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in Los Angeles in 2019.
“I have friends that I have referred to the Robert G. Kardashian Center, and it has saved their lives,” Kim said at an event celebrating the center’s fifth anniversary in 2024.
She added, “It makes me proud to hear them be so grateful that they found a place that was dedicated to the one thing that would help them.”
Kardashian also spoke about Robert G. Kardashian Center’s impact in a 2025 episode of The Kardashians, “There’s a few things in life that my dad would be really proud of us for and this is definitely one of them. We weren’t able to save his life with this new technology and with the access to these doctors, but now we can help save other people’s lives.”

Notably, Hulu’s official logline for the series reads, “This season is all about love, reinvention and what comes next. The season eight of the Hulu series is set to release on October 8.
