Ruby Rose has opened up about her close friendship with Hayden Panettiere, revealing that the pair spoke every day for five years before the actress’ death.
While conversing with Entertainment Tonight, Rose remembered the Scream star’s as a “best friend” and said they “spoke every day for five years.”
Rose grew emotional as she remembered Panettiere and reflected on the beginnings of their friendship.
She shared, “I didn’t even think we were gonna be friends. I didn’t know if I wanted to have any celebrity friends, ‘cause I didn’t have a great experience with the industry.”
Rose noted, “I saw her, she saw me, and I just remember thinking, ‘Oh, no.’ And then she ran up anyway and was like, ‘Hey, I’m Hayden. Can we go talk somewhere? We’ve got a lot in common.’ I just laughed.”
“I was like, ‘What?’ She says [that] I said, ‘I don’t think so,’ but I think I just laughed,” Rose recalled before adding, “And then we went and talked and we had everything in common.”
Reflecting on their bond, Rose said they had “five years of friendship,” with daily texts and regular check-ins. She also revealed that their close-knit group has expanded to 14 people, whom she considers her “family.”
“Hayden, all that she ever wanted was to have her story told, her way, on her terms,” Rose added of her late friend.
Hayden Panettiere death
To note, Panettiere died on Aug. 16 in South Carolina of an apparent overdose at age 36.
The investigation into Panettiere’s death remains ongoing, with toxicology results still “pending,” according to her representative, citing the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
The rep also urged patience, saying reports from unnamed sources remain unverified and that the answers surrounding her death will come as the investigation continues.
Panettiere’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach were with her when she died.
A police report said Brian showed officers a “bag of medication” she was taking.
