Carrot Top was hospitalized following a suspected prescription-pill overdose reportedly linked to an alleged suicide attempt.
As per TMZ, the comedian took prescription medicine before he was hospitalized for a suspected overdose.
Clark County Fire Department crews responded to his Las Vegas residence shortly after 4:20 p.m. Friday after being alerted to a 61-year-old man who was “not alert,” the outlet reported.
The longtime Las Vegas performer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was transported to the hospital by a private ambulance, despite a City of Las Vegas ambulance also responding to the scene.
Thompson has regained consciousness and is now breathing independently, according to his representative Jami Schlicher.
“Scott remains hospitalized and under close medical care,” she told us. “He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him.”
“Humor has always been such an important part of who Scott is and how he connects with people, and that remains true today as he shares moments of humor with the medical staff caring for him,” she continued.
Thompson’s residency at the Luxor, which he began in 2005, normally runs daily except Sundays, but his hospitalization led to five scheduled shows being canceled.
Carrot Top extorted over a sex tape
He was allegedly being extorted over a sex tape before the reported suicide attempt, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
His attorney, Ronnie Bitman, claimed in a September 3 filing that former opening performer Brian Evans threatened to release an explicit video of Thompson unless he paid $500,000.
“Evans demands immediate payment of significant sums and states that, absent immediate payment, a sexually explicit recording of Thompson will be filed in the public court file so that it may be obtained and disseminated by the press and other parties,” Bitman wrote, in part.
