Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York to lead a diplomatic delegation at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The visit marks a key moment on the global stage as world leaders gather for the annual diplomatic summit.
Bilateral engagement with UN leadership
Upon his arrival, Araghchi held a telephone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The two leaders discussed critical agenda items for the assembly and reviewed global initiatives aimed at strengthening international peace and security.
Speaking to reporters, Araghchi emphasized that Tehran’s primary objective during the summit is to utilize the global platform to defend the rights and interests of the Iranian people.
High-level diplomatic agenda
The Iranian Foreign Minister is scheduled to participate in multiple core sessions during the high-level week. Throughout his stay, he will conduct extensive bilateral consultations with counterpart foreign ministers and representatives from participating nations.
These side discussions are expected to focus heavily on pressing regional developments, multilateral security matters and international cooperation.
Araghchi’s arrival precedes the planned visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is scheduled to address the General Assembly.
Together, the high-ranking Iranian delegation aims to present Tehran’s formal positions on critical global and regional challenges before the international community.
