WhatsApp is launching the latest customisation feature for its Plus subscribers on Android, letting users to change the default emojis accessible in the message reaction tray.
The Meta owned WhatsApp is currently experimenting with a select number of beta testers via WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.38.4.
As per WABetaInfo, the launch is gradual, meaning it may take some time before the option becomes accessible to all eligible subscribers.
WhatsApp normally displays six default emojis when users react to a message. With the latest feature, Plus subscribers can replace any or all of these emojis with options from the full emoji keyboard.
To customize the reactions, WhatsApp users can launch WhatsApp Settings, go to Chats and choose the Default reactions section.
The six existing emojis will be displayed, and users can choose to select any emoji to replace it with another option.
Moreover, WhatsApp also offers a quicker way to change the reactions. When users launch the emoji keyboard while reacting to a message, the default reactions appear at the top.
Choosing the Edit option lets users customize the reaction tray without leaving the conversation.
The customization feature is limited to WhatsApp Plus subscribers. Non-subscribers may see the Default reactions section but cannot change the emojis without an active Plus subscription.
The feature adds to WhatsApp’s growing list of Plus personalization tools that already includes custom themes, app icons, premium stickers and the ability to pin up to 20 chats.
The custom reaction option is still in a limited Android beta rollout. WhatsApp is likely to expand access gradually, although the company has not confirmed when it will become available to all Plus subscribers.
