Glee is making a comeback!

The long-teased return of Glee is moving forward, as Disney+ and Hulu announced Wednesday, October 21, that the beloved musical TV show will get a new series.

First premiering in 2009, Ryan Murphy's hit musical series ran for six seasons before reaching its conclusion in 2015.

The ensemble featured Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jonathan Groff, Alex Newell, and several other actors.

The Glee family has also endured heartbreaking losses over the years, with the untimely deaths of original cast members Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera and Mark Salling.

Glee made its mark on the awards circuit, earning 32 Emmy nominations, six Emmy wins, nine Golden Globe nods, four Golden Globe victories, and two GLAAD Media Awards.

Ryan Murphy teased Glee comeback

Rumors of a potential Glee reboot have been circulating recently.

Back in July, Murphy told PEOPLE, “That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.’ ”

Murphy surprised fans in September by confirming that he had begun working on the beloved show after being asked about its future.

“Well, funny you ask, because I just finished the script an hour ago,” Murphy told Entertainment Tonight.

He added, “We have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.”

Murphy also revealed that he had spoken with several former cast members about the possibility of returning, as the show prepares to revisit the world of a high school glee club.

“I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members, and it’s very sweet,” he said, before adding, “They’ve all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

Details about the filming schedule and expected release date remain unclear, with no returning members of the original cast officially announced so far.
