King Charles and Prince William have reportedly decided not to engage in any public row with Earl Charles Spencer after new memoir lands in hot water.
Although, Earl’s controversial tell-all, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, hit the shelves on Monday, September 22, 2026, the shocking claims in his book about the Royal family members had already created quite the chaos.
The first-ever claim that came out from Earl Spencer’s book was about the 77-year-old monarch – who allegedly told Earl after Diana’s death that his sister would be “forgotten soon enough.”
This claim against his former brother-in-law prompted a pointed response from Buckingham Palace’s official spokesperson.
The memoir also holds a factually wrong claim against renowned anchor, Piers Morgan, who is accused of publishing photos of Diana exercising in a leotard in Sunday Mirror in 1993.
This claim from Earl backfired as Piers was not even part of The Daily Mirror until 1995.
Now despite Earl Spencer’s official apology – the British TV host has decided to take Diana’s brother to the court.
The whole fiasco is now being looked at as a favorable situation for the Palace as King and William believe that “Palace doesn't need to get dragged into a prolonged public fight with Charles Spencer because events surrounding the book are now speaking for themselves.”
They continued “Piers challenging a clear factual error, Charles having to apologize, and the prospect of legal action have inevitably raised questions about the book's accuracy.”
“From a PR perspective, people around the King and William feel the argument has effectively been won without them having to say very much at all – and they feel like they are having the last laugh about the whole affair, seeing that the price of his book has already been slashed so dramatically,” added the insider.
While another insider explained that "Piers' intervention couldn't have come at a worse time for Spencer. The Palace had already challenged his recollection involving the King, and suddenly there was an entirely separate claim where Spencer himself accepted he'd made an error.”
"Charles and William's approach has essentially been to get on with their jobs. The feeling is that responding to every allegation would only give the book more oxygen" they added.
This update came just a day after Prince William and Kate Middleton made their star-studded appearance at Tom Cruise's new movie Digger's premiere.
