The Ferrari Formula 1 team has issued a light-hearted “unofficial statement” on social media after drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc hacked its Instagram temporarily.

According to The Sunday Guardian, Ferrari fans were in for an unexpected surprise when the team’s Instagram account appeared to be taken over, with the Scuderia later revealing that the “hackers” were none other than Leclerc and Hamilton.

The two Ferrari drivers apparently got control of the team’s social media channels and made a series of changes, including altering the profile picture and posting content that had not gone through Ferrari’s usual approval process.

What looked like a social media breach quickly turned into a playful episode involving two of the biggest names in the Ferrari garage.

Ferrari played along with the incident in a mock official statement, saying that two individuals within the organisation had gained “unauthorised control” of its social media channels.

The team joked that the pair had made several “highly questionable editorial decisions” during their brief takeover, including changing the account’s profile picture and publishing content without the usual approval.

Ferrari then confirmed that the suspects had been identified and that full control of its social media accounts had been restored.

In the unofficial statement it said, “Scuderia Ferrari HP confirms that, over the past two hours, two individuals within the organisation gained unauthorised control of our social media channels.”

“During this period, a series of highly questionable editorial decisions were made, including changes to our profile picture and the publication of content that did not undergo our standard approval procedures. We can confirm that the two suspects have been identified and the situation has now been contained. Full control of our accounts has been restored,” Ferrari added.

The team at the end thanked fans for their understanding during this “unprecedented incident.”

Leclerc has been a Ferrari driver since 2019, while Hamilton joined the Italian team for the 2025 Formula 1 season after his long association with Mercedes.

The pair now form one of the most high-profile driver line-ups on the F1 grid, and their off-track interactions have regularly given Ferrari fans plenty to enjoy.
