After a challenging year, the grief-stricken Norwegian monarch, King Haakon, has sent his warmest thanks to those who contributed to the funeral procession.

On Friday, October 9th, the Norwegian Royal Family shared the first image of His Majesty from his office, which was previously owned by his late dad, King Harald V, who died at the age of 89 on August 28th, 2026.

After the oldest monarch of the era's devastating death, Haakon took over the throne and announced a grand funeral procession to bid a final farewell to his dad. 

King Haakon sends personalized letters after father's death

Now months after the funeral procession, the 53-year-old King of Norway sent personalised letters to the "individuals, institutions, and organisations" that contributed during King Harald's funeral, which was held on September 9th at Oslo Cathedral.

"These days King Haakon is sending out letters of thanks to individuals, institutions and organisations that contributed during King Harald's funeral," the Palace's aides wrote.

The royal statement continued, "I ask that my thanks be conveyed to everyone who contributed to the funeral procession with great professionalism and dignity."

King Harald V's mass funeral procession 

In September of this year, royal around each corner of the world have attended the funeral event to pay their last respects to the deceased monarch.

On behalf of Britain's King Charles III, his eldest son, Prince William, attended his father's cousin's funeral; Princess Anne also appeared alongside him in Oslo.

Delegations from 12 foreign royal houses and the Norwegian Royal Family attended the state funeral of King Harald V of Norway at Oslo Cathedral on September 9, 2026, which notably included 7 reigning kings and 10 queens among dozens of international royals.

Since King Harald V died, King Haakon has undertaken several key royal engagements and constitutional duties, including an extraordinary cabinet meeting, a constitutional oath of Allegiance, official condolences and receptions, King Harald's funeral, a balcony appearance, Princess Astrid's funeral, and he has also opened the 171st session of Parliament.



However, now that the official mourning period concludes on October 9th, 2026, King Haakon's schedule will focus on themes like democracy, the environment, defence, and inclusion.
