Perez Hilton marked his daughter’s ninth birthday while receiving treatment at a mental health facility, two months after the blogger revealed he had attempted suicide.
The 48-year-old blogger was hospitalized on August 4 after a TikTok livestream from his Miami home showed him covered in blood and appearing to engage in self-harm.
He was treated for lacerations and an overdose before being held under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows involuntary psychiatric evaluation when someone may pose a danger to themselves or others.
Hilton suffered significant blood loss and multiple broken bones during the incident, requiring surgery and several weeks of inpatient medical care.
He was later transferred to a residential treatment programme, where he currently remains.
In an October 15 update on his website, Hilton’s family revealed that his children and relatives visited him at the treatment facility on October 4 to celebrate his youngest daughter Mayte’s ninth birthday.
“While this year’s birthday looked very different from years past, it was still an incredibly special and meaningful day,” penned the family.
It added, “Being able to celebrate Mayte’s birthday together was especially meaningful for Perez, who has missed being part of so many everyday moments with his children while receiving treatment.”
In addition to Mayte, Hilton has two children, Mario, 13, and Mia, 11.
They lived with him and his mother in Miami when he was hospitalized.
His children, niece and sister had been at the property minutes before the livestream and fled after his sister discovered him harming himself in the bathroom.
