Christina Applegate has officially defeated the painful battle with multiple sclerosis.

The Dead to Me actress has returned to her infamous MeSsy podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler on Tuesday, October 20th.

After nearly a seven-month hiatus due to health issues, Applegate revealed that she was misdiagnosed with the autoimmune disease.

The 54-year-old American actress recalled her latest appointment with her health consultant, where she found out that she does not have to pursue treatment for MS, as the disease has completely vanished from her body.

"This may come as great news, but to me, it comes as I’m back at square one; it’s hard to say that [my doctor] came into my room and she said, ‘Congratulations, you don’t have MS," the Hall Pass star remarked.

She tearfully admitted to Jamie that her reaction was not about the "happiness", because the pain she had to go through on the heartbreaking journey has continued to dominate the happy news.

Dubbing her illness a mystery, Applegate shared, "I have every symptom of someone with MS. Every single one. Now, we both know that many things mirror MS — many different things."

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

For the unversed, Multiple sclerosis is a disease in which the "immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibres, known as myelin," which interrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body.

The former actress, who gained attention with her iconic comedic television and film roles, initially announced her diagnosis in 2021.

At the time, Christina Applegate revealed that the illness is incurable and affects her brain and spinal cord, noting that she had received the diagnosis a few months prior while filming the final season of her Netflix series, Dead to Me.

Her retirement from the camera

She first hinted at her retirement in February 2023 ahead of the SAG Awards and explicitly confirmed in May 2023 that she would likely no longer work on camera due to her health challenges.

However, in May of the same year, the actress announced her retirement, saying she was "probably not going to work on camera again" after her final performance in the Netflix show, Dead to Me.
