A plane carrying 19 people on board crashed in the capital of Nepal on Wednesday, July 24.
According to CNN, 18 people, 17 Neplaies and one Yameni, who were employees of the carrier, died after the small plane crashed during takeoff.
Gyanendra Bhul, an information officer at Tribhuvan International Airport, told CNN that the aircraft was taking off from Kathmandu to the city of Pokhara around 11 a.m. local time when the tragic incident happened.
He further added that the plane was enroute to for the technical maintenance.
The Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement that only one person survived during the deadly crash of the Saurya Airlines plane.
Moreover, the aviation authority said, “Rescue efforts were started immediately and the situation was brought under control.”
Additionally, Nepal is often referred to as one of the riskiest places to fly due to mountain terrain and other geographical reasons.
To note, Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority's 2019 safety report revealed that aircraft with 19 or fewer seats have more chances of getting accidents due to mountain ranges and the rapidly changing weather in the country.
