The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was abuzz with excitement at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 27, as Robert Downey Jr. announced his return to the franchise.

Fellow Marvel stars took to social media to congratulate Downey on his return.

Gwyneth Paltrow reacted to her Iron Man's costar return, joking, "I don't get it, are you a baddie now?" 

While Mark Ruffalo stated, "Welcome back, @RobertDowneyJr!"

The Russo Brothers, who will direct Avengers: Doomsday, teased "We've always said green is your color…" in reference to Downey's new role.

To note,  Downey Jr. wil return as villain Victor von Doom (aka Doctor Doom) in the upcoming Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Zoë Saldaña reacted with a series of clapping emojis, while Frank Grillo wrote "amazing,” with many fire emojis.

Florence Pugh, who joined the MCU in 2021's Black Widow and will reprise her role in the upcoming movie Thunderbolts, expressed surprise at the news, saying "I didn't see this... I bet it went insane in there."

David Harbour and Sebastian Stan also shared their reactions, with Stan calling Downey's return "surreal"and Harbour joking "It’s bad news, that guy’s, according to the Russo Brothers, the greatest actor in the world. Nobody wants to act with that guy.”

Robert Downey Jr.’s return marks a new era for the MCU, with fans eagerly anticipating his debut as the villainous Victor von Doom.

The next Marvel movie, Captain America: Brave New World, is set for release on February 14, 20
