Lara Dutta won the title of Miss Universe 2000 with not just her beauty, but also brains.
After the beauty pageants were greatly criticised for using women as objects, the judges took an opportunity and ask Miss Universe finalists, alongside Lara to convince the protestors otherwise.
"Right now there is a protest going on right outside here calling the Miss Universe Pageant disrespectful of women. Convince them they are wrong," said the judges.
Upon this, the very confident Lara replied, "I think pageants like the Miss Universe pageant gives us young women a platform to foray in the fields that we want to and forge ahead, be it entrepreneurship, be it the armed force, be it politics. It gives us a platform to voice our choices and opinions and makes us strong, independent that we are today."
The judges, who were not expecting such an apt answer, could not help but award herthe title of Miss Universe 2000.
