Scott Hylands has breathed his last.

The Night Heat star’s son Luke Hylands took to Instagram on Saturday, August 1, to announce the death of his father in an emotional statement.

As per Luke, the Canadian actor died at the age of 83 on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

“Scott Hylands Douglas. (Feb 27th 1943 - July 29th 2026). Husband, Father, Actor, Director, Writer, Storyteller, Friend, and lover of life,” he began.

He continued, “I am heartbroken to share the news that my Dad Scott has passed away Wednesday night. Myself and my family are still trying to process this horrible loss. There simply are not enough words I can say about you right now.”


The cinematographer added, “You are my forever hero and my best friend. Always and forever. I love you. Goodbye Dad. Xo.”

Scott Hylands’ cause of death

While Scott Hylands’ official cause of death has not been shared yet, it is pertinent to mention that he had been battling cancer before his passing.

The Fargo star was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which according to Cleveland Clinic is “a rare cancer that affects your bone marrow and blood. It’s an aggressive cancer that, left untreated, may be life-threatening.”

Hylands’ diagnosis became public in November 2021, when his wife, Veronica Hylands, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his leukemia treatment.

The fundraiser revealed that he needed the costly drug Venclexta, which was not covered by his insurance.
