Snapchat and LinkedIn have launched some ways to curb the spread of low-quality AI-powered content, which is commonly referred to as “AI slop,” as leading tech platforms seek to enhance content quality and restore user trust.
New tools to foster authentic content
Snapchat has brought a significant update to its Spotlight recommendation system so that videos created entirely by artificial intelligence will no longer be available to receive recommendations.
While users can still upload AI-powered videos, the platform will prioritize content generated by people. Videos improved with the company’s own high-end AI tools will only remain eligible, provided they include clear AI disclosure labels.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated the move is aimed at keeping Spotlight focused on authentic creativity.
Moreover, The company mentioned that the number of unique Spotlight contributors has seen an exponential raise of 120% year over year, suggesting growing engagement with original content.
Notably, LinkedIn, a highly-popular job hunting platform, has introduced a new reporting feature that allows users to flag posts as “Seems like AI slop.”
Reported posts will be hidden from the reporting user's feed and used to train LinkedIn’s systems to better detect low-quality AI-generated content. The platform said repeatedly flagged posts could see reduced visibility beyond the creator’s immediate network.
Industry's broader push against AI spam
LinkedIn is also retiring its "Enhance Your Post" AI writing tool, replacing it with a proofreading feature, which is particularly designed to preserve users’ own writing style.
The announcements reflect a broader industry trend. Platforms including YouTube and Substack have launched stricter policies or AI detection tools to limit mass-produced, low-quality content.
The significant move comes as part of the company’s broader efforts to integrate the fledgling field of AI while maintaining public trust.
Surveys show that millions of people now regularly use AI tools, but many remain concerned about their broader impact and the growing amount of AI-generated material flooding online platforms.
