After 23 long years, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is getting a sequel!

Kate Hudson will serve as the producer for the highly anticipated project, as her 2003 rom-com chemistry with Matthew McConaughey remains iconic even after two decades.

As reported by Variety, Paramount Pictures is officially developing a sequel to the 2003 classic.

Are Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey reprising their roles?

While no confirmation about the plot or cast of the sequel has been revealed, it was reported that the filmmakers are planning for both Hudson and McConaughey to reprise their respective roles as magazine writer Andie Anderson and ad executive Benjamin Berry.


How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days saw Andie trying to drive Ben away for a magazine article, while he made a bet with friends to make her fall in love with him in 10 days.

Matthew McConaughey was not the first choice for 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days'

It was revealed that McConaughey was not the first choice for the rom-com and Hudson had to fight for the Oscar winner to be cast in the role.

"We just kept hitting our heads against the wall," she shared during a 2022 Life In Pictures talk at BAFTA in London, "and the studio and I weren't agreeing."

She added, "We had an energy together, I wanted to play with him." 

"It felt kinetic. We both have a competitive spirit, we're both super athletic. We like to push each other and I just love Matthew's commitment to everything; he's razor-focused. What you think he is, is."

Matthew McConaughey benefits from 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' to date

During his recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, McConaughey revealed the film still pays him the most residuals of any of his movies "by far".

"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the gift that keeps on giving," he told host Josh Horowitz on the August 13. "I think it's probably my favourite rom-com I've done. A lot of people love that rom-com."

He continued, "It still pays the best mailbox money of any film I've ever done. Every March I'd get a big cheque because Valentine's Day."
