Major golf equipment brand Callaway and YouTube media group Good Good Golf have pulled a promotional video after widespread public outrage. The 15-second social media advertisement was meant to market a new co-branded golf driver.
However, it immediately sparked intense criticism for depicting physical aggression against a female golfer.
What happened in the video
The clip showed Good Good Golf co-founder Garrett Clark rushing over and shoving fellow team member Alexis Miestowski to the ground as she reached for a club.
As she lay on her back, Clark stood over her and warned, “Do not touch my new driver.” Viewers quickly condemned the clip on social media accusing the brands of making light of domestic violence and promoting unnecessary physical conflict.
Apology and statement from Good Good
Following the public backlash, the video was removed from all official social platforms. Good Good released an official apology, stating:
“We posted a video to our channels that ultimately depicted actions that are not aligned with our values as a brand. We have since taken that content down and sincerely apologize. Good Good has always stood for making the game of golf more inclusive to all and we will continue to ensure that is our mission going forward.”
Callaway addresses the misfire
Callaway Golf, which partnered with the content creation group in 2023, also responded to the incident. A spokesperson for Callaway stated:
“We are disappointed by the content that was posted and are appreciative of Good Good for addressing this. We look forward to working together to ensure a more inclusive space in golf.”
Additionally, Callaway removed the product listing for the driver from its website.
