A star-studded cast has been assembled for Roald Dahl’s new series.
In a Wednesday, August 26 article, Deadline reported that Netflix has locked in Nicola Coughlan, Imelda Staunton, and Dominic West to bring Dahl’s book to life.
As per the update, the trio has been casted to star in a new series based on the late British author’s short stories for adults.
In addition, Smile 2’s Naomi Scott, Say Nothing’s Josh Finan, MobLand’s Toby Jones, The Penguin’s Carmen Ejogo, Adolescence’s Christine Tremarco, The Cage’s Michael Socha, and The Boroughs’ Clarke Peters are also joining the project.
To produce the series, Orchis Pictures – founded by The Crown producer Suzanne Mackie – has stepped up.
According to the official logline, “Brocklehurst weaves a deliciously twisted tale through Roald Dahl’s iconic short stories. A young couple, marooned in a faded seaside town, navigate conmen, adulterers, murderous mothers and snake charmers as they attempt to escape before their own fate is sealed.”
Moreover, the video streaming giant has teamed up with Fool Me Once screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst to work on the upcoming untitled series.
Brocklehurst will pen a six-part drama based on some of Roald Dahl’s stories.
Expressing his admiration for Roald Dahl, Brocklehurst shared that he has admired the author since his childhood.
“His enthralling, macabre and always unexpected tales gave life to vibrant, larger-than-life characters like The Landlady, Mister Boggis and the mysterious Fingersmith. To be given the chance to bring these characters to life in a contemporary setting is a dream come true,” he stated.
As for the directions, Sex Education’s Runyararo and The Magic Faraway Tree’s Ben Gregor have been locked in, who will helm the project in Manchester.
