Samuel Monroe Jr's cause of death revealed
On Thursday, August 27, the actor's family announced in a heartbreaking post on Facebook that Samuel has passed away following a battle with meningitis.
"I want to thank all of my facebook family and friends new and old for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son," the actor’s mom, Joyce Patton, wrote.
She added, "But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family especially his 3 children."
Samuel Monroe Jr's health struggles before tragic death
The actor originally contracted a meningitis infection while working in Las Vegas. For the next few months, the infection worsened due to misdiagnosis.
In April, the actor was hospitalised after the infection spread to his brain and spine, leading to MRSA pneumonia and kidney issues.
His condition includes seizures, brain swelling, multiple brain surgeries, and dialysis.
Earlier this month, the Set It Off actor was placed on life support in a medically induced coma.
Family feud over conservatorship bid
The devastating news came amid a legal row between Samuel's mother and his wife, Shawna Stewart, who was fighting a conservatorship bid filed by Joyce while the actor was in the hospital in Los Angeles.
As reported by TMZ, Shawna claimed that Joyce's petition asking to establish a conservatorship for her son was financially motivated and not at all about the actor's well-being.
The actor's wife claimed that Samuel made it clear that he wanted her in charge of his money and medical decisions and not his mother.
