The Pakistan men’s cricket team will meet King Charles III days after the Lord's controversy over the former captain’s son's interview.
According to BBC, Buckingham Palace has announced that the British monarch will host the Pakistan cricket team as head of the Commonwealth before the third test match.
The statement read, “His Majesty the King, as Head of the Commonwealth, will receive the Pakistan Men's Test Cricket Team for an audience in the gardens of Clarence House in the break between the second and third Test matches hosted in England over the summer.”
The palace confirmed that the meeting was planned before the test series began in Lord’s.
As per the BBC, His Majesty would spend around 15 minutes with the team.
The announcement came after reports that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was considering calling off the tour midway over the Sky News interview with Imran Khan’s son Suleiman and Kasim Khan.
Khan, who has been in prison for the past three years on corruption charges that he denies, is the former Pakistan captain and prime minister.
As per the reports, PCB considered the option to not take the field after the lunch break during the second test and cancel the remainder of the three-match series before the interview was aired.
The England and Wales Cricket Board then talked to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office over the issue.
The details of the inside discussions are not revealed yet, but the tourists returned to the field as per schedule after the break on the opening day of the second test.
Later Pakistan captain Babar Azam and coach Sarfaraz Ahmed debunked the reports and said they did not know “anything” about this matter.
England and Pakistan will begin the play for the third and final test match of the series, which the English side is leading with 2-0, on September 9.
