Lil Durk has been hit with shocking testimony amid his murder-for-hire trial for the death of King Von.
Kavon Grant, who worked as Durk's personal assistant, took the stand on Monday afternoon, August 31, and testified for about 30 minutes in the federal trial of Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks.
Grant shared that he grew close to the rapper after the death of his cousin, rapper Dayvon Bennett, also known as King Von.
Quando Rondo shooting discussed in court
In the trial, he was asked whether he participated in the August 19, 2022, shooting of Saviay'a Robinson, which he testified that he did.
Admitting to playing a key role in the plot to kill Quando Rondo, another rapper and gang rival of Lil Durk, Grant shared that Lil Durk and his two co-defendants, David Lindsey and Deondre Wilson, were involved in the shooting.
Three masked shooters sprayed Rondo's car with bullets in 2022, at a West Hollywood gas station.
They missed their target but hit his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay'a Robinson, killing him.
When asked for the reason, Grant said, "Durk told us to."
In their opening statement, Banks' attorney said Grant had organised and masterminded the shooting.
While watching a video footage of Dayvon Bennett's 2020 death, Grant testified in court, sharing that around 40 people, including O'Block members, went to a club with King Von.
He arrived first and was sitting in his car when he suddently heard gunshots. He saw King Von lying in the street after being shot.
The defence claimed that Grant later planned an attack against rapper Quando Rondo.
About Lil Durk murder-for-hire trial
Lil Durk was arrested in October 2024, with federal prosecutors alleging that Durk sought revenge after the 2020 killing of his friend and fellow rapper King Von outside an Atlanta hookah lounge.
Prosecutors claim that members of Durk's crew later targeted rapper Quando Rondo in 2022. Rondo survived the attack, but his cousin Lul Pab passed away.
Durk has denied wrongdoing and remains in federal custody as the case proceeds.
The rapper was arrested near Miami International Airport.
Besides murder-for-hire, Durk is also facing charges of conspiracy and stalking.
Moreover, Grant's testimony will continue Tuesday morning, when the defence will have an opportunity to cross-examine him.
