Victor Miller, the screenwriter of the horror classic Friday the 13th, has passed away at the age of 86.

He died on Monday in Alameda, California, confirmed by his son, Ian.

Penning a heartfelt tribute to his father on social media, Ian shared that "For those who are interested, we will hold a celebration of life in November — on Friday the 13th, of course."

Released in 1980, Friday the 13th is widely considered a horror classic and has been credited for popularising the summer camp setting and themes surrounding teenage revelry.

In a recent interview with the movie's fan site, Miller said the inspiration behind the iconic film came from, at first, an attempt to follow in the footsteps of John Carpenter's Halloween, which debuted two years prior.

Besides Friday the 13th, Miller's writing credits included General Hospital, All My Children, Another World, Guiding Light, and One Life to Live

All My Children went on to win three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team, with Miller being a critical member of the award-winning team.

His legacy will once again be honoured next month on October 15 with Peacock's Crystal Lake show. It is a prequel to Friday the 13th featuring Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and Callum Vinson as young Jason Voorhees.

Brad Caleb Kane, who was the co-showrunner of HBO Max's IT: Welcome to Derry season 1 and is set to be the sole showrunner of season 2, created the Crystal Lake series. He is the showrunner of this horror prequel as well.

Miller was born in New Orleans, La., in 1940. He is survived by his wife, Tina Thurston Miller, and his two sons, Ian and Josh.
