Marius Borg Høiby’s house arrest has been extended, keeping him under restrictions beyond the funeral of his grandfather, Norway’s King Harald.
As reported by Hello Magazine, the disgraced royal has had his house arrest extended beyond September 7, meaning he will remain under restrictions during his grandfather King Harald’s funeral, which he has been allowed to attend.
Høiby will not contest the extension.
Speaking to Norwegian publication Nettavisen, Marius' defence attorney, Petar Sekulic, said: "Høiby still does not agree that there is a risk of recurrence, but he will consent to further detention.”
Sekulic added, “He does not want any focus on this in these days surrounding King Harald’s death."
In June, Marius was convicted of two counts of rape among other offences and sentenced to four years in prison.
He has appealed the most serious convictions, meaning the verdict is not yet legally binding.
After serving time in prison, he was transferred to house arrest under electronic monitoring. Prosecutors have repeatedly raised fears of reoffending, allegations his defence team has vehemently dismissed.
Following his release, Marius has been living at Skaugum, the historic royal residence of King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit located outside Oslo.
Notably, Marius was granted temporary permission to leave house arrest on several occasions last month as Harald’s condition worsened.
On August 27, he visited his step-grandfather in hospital before heading to Bygdøy Royal Palace the next day following Harald’s death.
Marius was last seen publicly on 31 August, when he joined the royal family in carrying Harald’s bier at an emotional ceremony.
He was photographed alongside King Haakon, Princess Märtha Louise, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus as they carried Harald’s coffin through the palace in the company of court staff.
Marius joined the royal family in wearing black suits for the emotional occasion.
