Ahead of releasing her new solo EP, BLACKPINK Lisa has made an emotional admission about coming to South Korea for her career at a young age and the challenges she faced in romantic relationships.
In her documentary Always Lalisa, the singer said, "I'm finally living my own life."
She left her home country Thailand in 2011 at the age of 14 to begin training for a K-pop star career in Korea.
While discussing the evaluation videos she submitted each month during her time as a YG Entertainment trainee, Lisa eventually became overwhelmed with emotion and burst into tears.
Lisa opens up about dating in secret
Discussing dating as a K-pop idol, she noted, "You can't date in K-pop culture," sharing that she felt pressured by the possibility that her popularity could decline if paparazzi disclosed her romance with someone.
She also said that she had dated several times when she was younger but had to keep all of those relationships secret, fearing that the girl group popularity could take a hit if her dating news came out.
Lisa reveals a secret romance in 'Dream'
Lisa revealed that her experience of a secret relationship was also reflected in Dream, a track from her solo album Alter Ego, released last year.
Before releasing the song, she asked her ex for permission and received consent on the condition that fans would not discover their identity.
The year-old added that she believed fans seemed to think they had already figured out who the person was but said she did not think so, fuelling further curiosity.
Lisa's romance makes headlines
The BLACKPINK member has been at the centre of dating rumours several times.
Since 2023, she has been spotted on multiple occasions with Frédéric Arnault, the son of Bernard Arnault, who has led the world's largest luxury-goods group, LVMH, but neither side has confirmed the romance.
In recent months, she has been linked with Thai actor Blue Pongtiwat, but that claim also remains unconfirmed.
About 'Always Lalisa'
Always Lalisa is a film by director Soo Kim that documents the year Lisa spent pursuing an independent path after briefly stepping away from BLACKPINK.
The documentary will be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 11, followed by limited screenings at IMAX theatres and select cinemas worldwide beginning October 12.
It is scheduled to be released on YouTube Premium later this year.
Moreover, on the work front, BLACKPINK's Lisa will release her new solo EP, titled PRESS PLAY, on October 23, 2026.
The lead single SaWaDiKa was released on September 4 alongside its music video.
