King Frederik and Queen Mary made an emotional appearance at Denmark’s Flag Day ceremony, honoring the country’s deployed personnel and those who lost their lives serving abroad.
The Danish monarch and Queen Consort took to Instagram on Saturday, September 5, to share moments from Denmark’s Flag Day commemorations, honoring deployed personnel and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The royal couple joined Flag Day commemorations in the capital, laying a wreath at Kastellet, attending a memorial service at Holmen’s Church and reviewing a parade at Christiansborg Palace Square.
King Frederik wore his formal military uniform, while Queen Mary opted for a dignified blue dress.
Sharing the glimpses of the outing, the palace wrote, “The Danish flag has been flying across the country today to mark Flag Day for Denmark’s deployed personnel.”
The statement added, “The King and Queen joined representatives of the Danish establishment in commemorating Flag Day, which since 2009 has honored those who are currently or have previously been deployed on missions for Denmark.”
It shared, “At Kastellet in Copenhagen, Their Majesties King Frederik and Queen Mary laid a wreath at the Monument to Denmark’s International Effort After 1948 in honor of those who lost their lives. At Holmen Church, Their Majesties attended a memorial service. The commemoration continued at Christiansborg Palace Square, where the royal couple watched the official parade.”
The palace concluded, “Flag Day is both a tribute to Denmark’s deployed personnel and their professional service, as well as a day to remember those who lost their lives while serving abroad.”
The monarch appeared deeply moved as they laid a wreath at Copenhagen’s Kastellet.
