King Felipe VI of Spain's next heir to the royal throne, Princess Leonor, is levelling up her monarchy skills before she takes the throne.
The Princess of Asturias has kicked off her academic chapter in Madrid, after undergoing three tough years of military training.
Taking to the official Instagram account of the Spanish Royal Family, His Majesty highlighted Leonor's first day at the Charles III University of Madrid.
The 20-year-old elder daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended the classes of Theory of Law, Research Methodology in Social Sciences, and Fundamentals of Political Science.
In the shared video clip, Leonor is seen stepping onto the campus alongside her fellow students, while receiving a warm welcome from the deans at the college.
"After three years of military training, the Princess of Asturias begins today her studies of Political Science at the Charles III University of Madrid (Getafe Campus)," King Felipe's royal post read.
The statement continued, explaining, "Among the subjects he will attend on his first day of class are Theory of Law, Research Methodology in Social Sciences and Fundamentals of Political Science."
"According to UC3M’s curriculum, this degree is designed to acquire essential knowledge, skills and competencies in Political Science, Law and Administration, both in domestic and international contexts," His Majesty added.
The further message revealed that during her new academic phase, the future Queen of Spain will spend nearly two years seeking international academic training at UWC College Wales following her military training over the past three years.
About Princess Leonor's military training
Princess Leonor of Spain started her three-year military training in August 2023 and concluded it on July 10th, 2026.
She has been trained under the surveillance of top-notch officials at the General Air and Space Academy in San Javier, Murcia (Air Force branch).
This update came after the Spanish Royal Family revealed that King Felipe VI will attend the state funeral of the late King Harald V in Oslo on September 9th, 2026, rather than Haakon VIII, who has become the new monarch of Norway after his father died at the age of 89 later in August.
So far, it has not been clarified whether Princess Leonor will accompany her father for the high-stakes event.
